Need a break from your voyage?
Your boat at anchor, in Taiohae Bay
Whether you want to be away for a few weeks or several months, you can leave your boat at anchor in Taiohae Bay. Nuku-Hiva Maintenance goes on board every week to keep you informed of the general condition of the vessel while you are away.
The bay offers a wide, sheltered anchorage with good holding. Lying outside the cyclone belt, Nuku Hiva is a convenient stop to leave your boat for a break. The airport is about an hour's drive away, with several flights a day to Tahiti: coming and going is easy.

While you are away
We live on a boat ourselves, at anchor in Taiohae Bay: we are right there, among the boats we look after.
Before you leave, we do a handover visit together: we agree on the points to check, and we are ready to deal with an emergency or move the vessel if necessary.
Nuku-Hiva Maintenance is well established in the sailing community and among the people of Taiohae. Sometimes other eyes than ours spontaneously let us know about something unusual: extra peace of mind.
If we notice anything wrong, we let you know quickly so that you can decide what to do next. This service does not provide round-the-clock supervision, nor does it guarantee the safety of the vessel.
We take you to and from the dock on the day you leave and the day you return: you can leave your dinghy on board.
Before you leave, we visit the boat together to agree on the points to check and advise you on preparations. You can increase the frequency of visits or add points of attention, and we can carry out work while you are away, at your request.

Frequently asked questions
While you are away, we go on board once a week: airing the boat, checking the bilges for water, checking the batteries if a monitor is fitted, making sure deck covers are secure, looking at the anchorage and, if needed, running the engines and generators to keep them lubricated. Your trips to and from the dock are included.
Yes, for a short or medium stay: the bay is wide and well sheltered, the holding is very good, Nuku Hiva lies outside the cyclone belt, and the airport makes it easy to come and go.
Yes, and it is strongly recommended in the high season, from August to March. When you book, we agree on the dates, how often we visit and what to keep an eye on.
By WhatsApp, by phone or through the contact form. Give us the boat name, the dates you will be away, where the boat is anchored, what needs attention (batteries, watermaker, anything specific) and an emergency contact. We send you a written summary and the draft contract.
Changes are possible depending on availability: let us know as early as possible. If you cancel, 80% of the amount paid is refunded when you cancel at least one month ahead, and 50% at least 15 days ahead. Less than 15 days ahead, no refund is possible.
Yes. The visit frequency and the checklist can be tailored. Work can be carried out while you are away, on quotation, if you authorise it. Before you leave, we go round the boat together to agree on what to check.
No. Monitoring gives you regular follow-up and peace of mind, but it is not round-the-clock supervision nor a guarantee of the vessel's safety. If we notice anything unusual, we let you know quickly so that you can decide what to do.
